Municipal Pool Backwash Water Recycling System - 18kL/day, NSW

CRS have recently commissioned a municipal swimming pool backwash water recycling plant at Epping Aquatic Centre in Sydney.                                  The Backwash Water Recycling Plant recovers 60% of the filter backwash (approx. 36,000 litres each backwash) for re-use as pool makeup water. The Backwash Water Recycling Plant  is achieving 98% rejection of salts with treated water conductivity less than 150µs/cm.    The Backwash Water Recycling Plant is small in footprint, is operator friendly and has been easily retrofitted to the existing pipework.   CRS are also looking into a separate application to treat backwash water to a quality sufficient for irrigation. As the water quality required is markedly less than for pool makeup the recovery will be significantly increased. The capital and operating costs will also be significantly reduced.   A recycling plant treating the same quality and quantity of backwash as Epping for use as garden irrigation is estimated to achieve a 90% recovery.
