CRS GEOTUBE® PROJECTS

Geotube®

Municipal Wastewater Applications - Snow Fields

The Geotube® dewatering container was placed in a ski resort area just prior to the ski season.  The treatment plant operator sent the following report : " I first decided to trial Geotube® for sludge removal and storage after reading reports and observing them in use at ......Sewage Treatment Plant in NSW in April 2004, with two months to winter, it was a race.  Getting CEO approval was fast, Geotube® took a month, still leaving me a month to set up Geotube® before any significant snow fell.
Having a need for extra sludge storage space in the winter months was my main goal, the fact that a centrifuge was up to three times the cost of Geotube®, a budgetary goal was also sought. Having two drying beds has always been a bonus for sludge drying, however, winter snows and weather conditions prevent their use for five to six months yearly.
Now having trialled a 3.6 x 15m Geotube®, I now feel that I can at least use one drying bed with Geotube® for desludging during all the winter months. Filling  Geotube® began in June with a 100,000 litre drop of very light sludge @ 60mg/l with 1.25kg of Poly Electrolyte per 100,000 litres for bag conditioning.
And then it snowed 1 metre plus."

"I again started filling Geotube® in July after the snow was removed by shovel (very gently done). Filling took place over 4 days with 80,000 litres a day @ 18,000 mg/l again using Poly Electolyte @1.25 kg /100,000 litres of sludge.
The fact that I was able to drop over 300,000 litres of sludge in a four day period and still come in to work and observe that Geotube® had dropped to a quarter of its fill height (1.2m to 30cm) was outstanding.

I feel that the snow weight has certainly helped in the compression of Geotube®, as at September, Geotube® has received over 420,000 litres of and is still only 30cm high, as an outdoor product this Geotube® has had to endure snow at least a metre and half thick, ice, shovelling and myself walking all over it to remove the snow, the durability of Geotube® has certainly been tested, and in my opinion has surpassed all expectations. When Geotube® is filled and then emptied in the summer, I will follow up this report with a conclusion and results of testing that will be applied to the dried sludge cake prior to disposal for recycling."
